The six competitors in M-Tel Masters Chess Tournament's third edition unanimously lent a shoulder to the campaign launched by Standart, BTV and Darik Radio in support of the unjustly sentenced to death Bulgarian nurses in Libya.
The sixth round of the chess competition was under the patronage of the "You Are Not Alone" campaign. Each of the chess stars was awarded with a campaign ribbon. At Grand Hotel Sofia, Slavka Bozukova, Standart Executive Director and Editor-in-Chief made the GMs as well as the audience familiar with the cause.
"I am honoured to be here among you. I would like to make you aware of a mission that has succeeded in making the world respond. Even France's President Nicolas Sarkozy has been engaged in it", Mrs. Bozukova said. She also extended her gratitude for the competitors' compassion and reminded that Vesselin Topalov is one of the campaign's faces.
At the very first chess tournament for this year that took place in Wijk aan Zee, the 19th on the list of world chess champions declared his support to the nurses and told their story at every tournament he took part in. The 20 foreign journalists covering the event received brochures, badges as well as CDs featuring public rallies for the nurses in Sofia and all over the country. Among those who showed the greatest interest for the "You Are Not Alone" campaign there has been a Reuters' commentator. A huge "You Are Not Alone" ribbon was placed in the center of the tournament hall.
